If you’ve been following me on Instagram, you’ll know I’ve spent the past couple of weeks in Australia. Conveniently, I’m about to hop on an airplane during the time I’d usually post a build update and stick around to answer all of your intelligent, well thought out questions such as, “Why didn’t you just use an LS?”
So in lieu of that, here are some Utes I saw these past two weeks.
The Boss 260 stickers indicate that this guy has the DOHC 5.4L V8 that was also used in the Lincoln Navigator, Ford GT, and some Shelby Mustangs. It puts out 260 kW of power, or around 350 horsepower. They also had a Boss 290, Boss 302, and Boss 315, with 389, 405, and 422hp, respectively.
This Commodore Ute came with a V8 and a six speed manual. Throw a couple of dirt bikes in the back, or some mulch, or whatever you want. Awesome.
This was my favorite - the Ford Falcon Ute with the Super Pursuit package. It has a turbocharged 4.0 I6 putting out 362hp and 410ft-lb coupled with a T-56 6 speed manual. That’s certainly enough to roast some tires.
I’ll be back again next week in full force, so get ready to complain about my poor decision making!

Your writing style is hilarious, and very well done. I actually eagerly await these updates each week. These ute photos remind me of when I discovered Chevy Australia’s website back in ‘02 or ‘03. Couldn’t believe all of the bitchin’ cars they sold there and not here in the US!

Mikael, were did you visit in Stralia? I was just there at the end of May for 2 weeks. Had a blast driving a Kia Rondo from Sydney to Brisbane and then back. Flew to Cairns for the barrier reef, got shit on by a Koala, spent time with Roo’s and Walbies and enjoyed Vivid light show in Sydney. Also did a bunch of car spotting. Here is the line up for when I went to get the Rondo at the airport, I really wished I was picking up the Swift Sport instead of the Rondo.

Also, Kia Rio 3 door, wish we had that and the Rondo here in the US. Man I should just move to Sydney, they have a bunch of my favorite cars.

Swift Sport? Are they not both regular Swifts?

I live in Melbourne. How’d you find Australia?

We did just about the same thing! Flew into Sydney and spent 10 days driving up to Brisbane. Thought about driving back but Qantas flights were only $60 so we left the car and flew back to Sydney before flying home.
I reserved a Commodore SV6 with Avis but when I got there they didn’t have one, so I ended up in a Mazda6 wagon. Not all bad, as I haven’t had a chance to drive this generation Mazda6 yet and it was enjoyable.
We just landed in LA and I’m a wreck and we still have two flights/8 more hours of travel before we’re home. Woooooo!

Loved it. There were so many places we only stopped for a day that we knew we could spend much more time, and we want to hit up Melbourne and more of the southern coast as well!

Blue one was a Sport, the wheels and rear were different, it had the dual exhaust and Sport badge. The owner started it up before we left and it sounded mean as hell.

I did the same thing at first reserving the SV6, but then my wife was able to get us a car for free from a connection. I am sort of glad we got the Rondo, we averaged 8L/100KM and it was a 60L tank on it. I think fill ups on the SV6 would have sucked so bad. Also I felt like a total idiot filling up the first time, I tried to prepay like here in California, the guy totally laughed at me.

We did 7.4L/100km in the Mazda (32mpg US)! Our total was just shy of 1500km.

That’s really good, we had too much traffic to get there. My best day had me hit 6.9L/100km, but that was strait driving from Coffs Harbour to Sydney with one stop and open roads.

Well we got home today to find it’s 35 degC outside and muggy. I wish I was back in the 18-20 degree Aussie weather.
